It also has a sixth form for both girls and boys. It is situated south of Gloucester city centre on Stroud Road (B4072), between Linden and Tredworth, a few hundred metres west of the Cross Country Route.
It was known as High School for Girls, Ribston Hall. In April 1975, led by the biology teacher Dr Peter Driver, six girls planned to spend a week under canvas on Robinswood Hill, to try to live off sparrows, starlings, hedgehogs and mice as an 'experiment' in survival. The Gloucestershire Trust for Nature Conservation were not greatly pleased. It was not approved.
It became a grant maintained school in April 1990.
Ribston Hall has a 98% A-C pass rate and a partnership with The Crypt School.
Ribston is consistently achieving in the top five secondary schools in Gloucestershire in the league tables. Its results are well above average for English schools.
Students are divided into four houses: Britons, Danes, Saxons and Romans.
